A major search operation is underway for 23-year-old Jenny Hall, a keen long-distance runner from Tow Law, County Durham, who has been missing since Tuesday, February 18, 2025. She was last seen leaving her home in Barracks Farm shortly after 3 p.m., driving her red Ford Focus. The vehicle was later found parked on the B6278 between Eggleston and Stanhope, prompting an extensive search of the surrounding area.
The search efforts have been intensified, with specialized police teams, expert mountain rescue units, sniffer dogs, and air support, including HM Coastguard, all involved. More than 100 miles of tracks have been covered in the Teesdale area, focusing on running trails between Eggleston and Hamsterley that Jenny frequently used. Despite challenging weather conditions and terrain, the search continues around the clock.
Chief Inspector Dean Haythornthwaite of Durham Constabulary expressed growing concern, stating that all lines of inquiry are being explored, including numerous tips from the public. Digital intelligence officers have also conducted extensive investigations into Jenny’s mobile phone, smartwatch, and running apps, but unfortunately, no leads have been found.
Jenny is described as white, 6 feet tall, with long dark hair, possibly tied in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a blue hoodie with a John Deere logo and dark jogging bottoms and may have been carrying a green jacket. Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen Jenny or has information about her whereabouts to contact police immediately on 999.
The local community, including rural landowners and various mountain rescue teams, has been instrumental in assisting with the search efforts. Chief Inspector Haythornthwaite extended his gratitude to everyone involved in the ongoing efforts to locate Jenny and reunite her with her family.
