Bournemouth End Austria Tour in Style with Five-Star Win Over Augsburg

AFC Bournemouth wrapped up their pre-season tour of Austria in emphatic fashion with a 5-2 victory over Bundesliga side Augsburg, completing a perfect week under new head coach Marco Rose.

The Cherries made it two wins from two during their Austrian training camp following their earlier 4-1 success against St. Pauli, with an impressive attacking display that will leave supporters optimistic ahead of the new Premier League season.

Played over four 30-minute periods at the Saalfelden Arena, Bournemouth overcame an Augsburg side that finished ninth in last season’s Bundesliga, showcasing both their attacking depth and the strength of their squad.

Evanilson Opens the Scoring

Bournemouth made a bright start and were rewarded after just 12 minutes when Justin Kluivert’s relentless pressing forced goalkeeper Finn Dahmen into an error. The loose ball fell kindly to Evanilson, who calmly rolled the ball into an empty net to give the Cherries an early lead.

The Premier League side continued to threaten throughout the opening stages. Kluivert was heavily involved, first creating an opportunity for Amine Adli, whose effort drifted narrowly over the crossbar, before Alex Scott released Adli again, forcing Dahmen into a smart save.

Despite Bournemouth’s dominance, goalkeeper Will Dennis was called into action shortly before the hour mark, producing an excellent fingertip save to deny Marius Wolf from a tight angle.

Bournemouth Step Up After the Break

Marco Rose made a host of changes after the opening 60 minutes, and the fresh legs quickly made an impact.

Adam Smith almost doubled the lead after racing onto a clever flick from Ben Gannon-Doak, but Augsburg managed to clear his dangerous cross before anyone could apply the finishing touch.

The second goal arrived on 65 minutes when Daniel Jebbison won possession high up the pitch before finding Alex Tóth, who kept his composure to slot home from close range.

Just three minutes later, Bournemouth struck again. Marcus Tavernier recovered possession before feeding Jebbison, who held off his defender brilliantly before laying the ball into the path of Ben Gannon-Doak. The youngster made no mistake, firing confidently into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Augsburg Fight Back Before Cherries Finish Strong

Augsburg reduced the deficit from the penalty spot on 72 minutes after referee Manuel Baumann awarded a spot-kick for a foul inside the area. Alexis Claude-Maurice converted past Fraser Forster to make it 3-1.

The Bundesliga side grabbed another goal on 85 minutes when Tim Schnitzer’s flick from a corner found its way into the net, briefly raising hopes of an unlikely comeback.

However, Bournemouth quickly extinguished any momentum.

Just three minutes later, Marcus Tavernier unleashed a powerful strike after Malcom Dacosta Gonzalez’s initial effort had been saved, restoring the Cherries’ two-goal cushion.

Tavernier was involved again deep into the contest, timing his run perfectly to beat the offside trap before squaring unselfishly for Enes Ünal to tap home Bournemouth’s fifth and complete an outstanding team performance.

Positive Signs Ahead of the Premier League Return

Marco Rose will be encouraged by the quality shown across his squad, with goals coming from five different players and several summer signings continuing to settle into the side.

Victories over St. Pauli and Augsburg have capped an excellent training camp in Austria, giving Bournemouth valuable momentum as preparations continue for the start of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

Final Score: Augsburg 2-5 AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth goals: Evanilson (12), Alex Tóth (65), Ben Gannon-Doak (68), Marcus Tavernier (88), Enes Ünal (109).
