BCP Area Roads to Benefit from £7 Million Boost

Roads in the BCP area are set for a significant upgrade thanks to a £7,478,000 allocation from the Department for Transport. The funding forms part of a record-breaking £300 million investment aimed at repairing roads and filling potholes across the Southwest.

The money will go towards much-needed improvements, including filling potholes and repairing damaged road surfaces. These upgrades aim to make roads safer, enhance journey times, and save drivers money on avoidable vehicle repairs.

Recent data from the RAC highlights the urgency of the issue, with motorists encountering an average of six potholes per mile in England and Wales. On average, pothole-related vehicle repairs cost drivers £500, with severe damage repairs being even more expensive. A survey by the AA found that 96 per cent of drivers prioritise fixing potholes.

Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes welcomed the funding, stating:
“Potholes aren’t just an annoyance—they pose a danger to lives and cost local residents hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds in vehicle repairs. I’m thrilled that BCP Council is receiving substantial funding to address this issue and make our roads safer.”

Dorset Council will also benefit from the initiative, receiving £25,011,000 to improve the county’s road network.
